I'm just hoping for her sake that it is a girl. She already has 3 boys. o.O

10? Hmm. Well I don't see my bro having more than 1 or 2. Same with my little sister. And my fiancee's sister. So I might hit 10, or I might not. Who knows. lol

hmmmm, 18 nieces and nephews, 12 great, and 9 grandkids. Grandkids range from 7 weeks to 12 yrs. Daughter has 3 boys, oldest son has 1 boy, middle son has 3 boys 2 girls, youngest son and wife, none yet. We come from a line of large families. From both mom's and dad's sides - 15 aunts and uncles, not counting their spouses. Me? 1 brother 5 sisters.

Did I mention large families?

I am one of six as well, hubby one of 4....but my parents were born around the depression so they didnt have big families when they couldnt feed them (mom has a sister with no kids, dad was an only child). so I have only one aunt (and had an uncle but he died the year after my dad)...so no cousins.

and yeah pwnd, hope she gets what she wants this time (my family didnt--oldest wanted a girl--got 2 boys, younger brother wanted boys--got 3 girls...hubbys brotherinlaw wants a boy--has 3 girls....doesnt seem like either side can get a mixed bag here).

o.O I'm one of 4 if that has any bearing. My mom didn't want anymore than 4, though I think she would have been happy with 2 or 3. Decided on four though. Of course both my mom and dad came from families where they each had 3 other siblings.

I hope she does too, she really wants a baby girl.

sigh....

I just dont understand some things.....

I took a trip over to the grocery store, and got stuck behind a school bus...it stopped at a house...the kids were NOT waiting, the bus waited for the kids to come out of the house and the mom then got into her car and FOLLOWED the bus all the way to the school why the heck couldnt she have just driven the kids to the school??? and in my day if the kids werent waiting at the bus stop..the bus didnt stop at all! (yes the school was also on my way to the store ).
I can understand kids taking the bus, I can understand if it were snowing, raining, etc for the kids NOT waiting outside...but its NICE today (not hot, not cold, not raining, not snowing....BEAUTIFUL day)...and I dont get why the mom could not have just taken the kids to school since she drove past it anyways!

sigh

Even when I rode the bus, if you weren't out there when the bus came by, it just went on by. It may have slowed down for a second, but that was it. Then it was gone. The mom should have just taken the kids to school, but who knows why she didn't. Parents are strange...

so its not just me....(not to mention the school was like 4 blocks from the kids house--we WALKED that short of a distance, heck we walked up to 7 blocks from the school), and yeah if we were not AT the bus stop (even only a 1/2 block away) the bus would NOT wait for us to catch up---it was GONE. (we would have walked either way---my mom didnt drive, we had only one car and my dad left for work at 6:30am...so we hoofed it).

How far is 7 blocks?

my walk to school was just under 3 miles and took me 45 minutes, but it was the most beautiful walk, I loved every minute of it.

10 blocks is a mile (city) 8 block is a mile (country) so less than a mile...or about 1 kilometer+ (the school was at 119th street and they would make kids who lived at 125th walk at 126th the would get a bus trip). I had a 4 block walk and the last block was on school property (the field). Now ALL kids unless they live across the street from the school get bused ...stupider still--my sister would drive my nephew to the bus stop and wait with him there (the school being only 1/2 mile farther up the street) instead of just driving all the way to the school! It would take a whole 5 minutes more to take him those last 4 blocks! (if that), instead they would wait in the car for 15 minutes for the bus!!! I just cant grasp this level of stupidity.
(nice to see you posting here Aeronwen...getting kinda lonely with just me an pwnd..and Perkunas come back!)

I suppose going on the bus is also a social activity, but it does sound crazy, those buses must clog up the roads a bit ^^

From what I can understand, more kids are being bused for safety. So they don't get hit by cars while walking to school or taken on their walk to and from school. Of course if kids were a bit smarter, we wouldn't have to worry about that as much. Either way we are all about safety these days. And ya, the buses definitely slow traffic down. A lot.

You all have heard the saying, "When it rains, it pours"? Just had to replace the alternators and batteries on the truck and the car. Close to $300 on the truck, not quite done with the car, so no total there yet.

Out here in the country, not sure which is worse right now, the combines and tractors or the school buses. At least with the buses, you know about when they will be going through, the others, you just encounter.

OUCH! I thought my 9 trips to get my brakes done was bad--at least the other car worked the whole time! (still need to get that oil change and such done).

yeah, I remember living in the boooonies....driving 10mph behind the combines....praying for a stretch of road to pass them ....at least you can pass them, canT pass the school buses!

and I think that if you drive you kid to school, you can watch them as they get out of the car to make sure they dont get hit by another car (or I would hope you have taught your kids to LOOK BOTH WAYS!)....the stopping with all the kids for the school bus with tons of cars around is a safety hazzard too (good thing there is never an emergency vehicle around when these buses are loading with all the cars blocking every which way).

oy
another morning of waiting for my phone to ring...well I nipped this one...called them back . (and they were in to answer! )

I get that now. Living out in the country we think a traffic jam is 15 cars behind a tractor or combine. Good times.

Glad the fix for my car was easy. Just had to swap out the coolant overflow tanks. Easy as pie.

Parents don't seem to teach kids much of anything these days. Just had some students joy riding, freshman who can't drive mind you, in a car on some back roads. Went over a hill doing 80 mph and flipped the car. One has a broken arm, another has a broken leg, and the driver has been in and out of surgery. Apparently no parent taught them not to do stupid things. Glad they are okay but geez... What parent allows that?

not theirs either! (you can just imagine the yelling that they would get if they were not injured--and I can imagine that they might not get their licenses for many many years now as well).
Kids all think they are invulnerable! and the more stupid the stunt, the more will try it though some will never learn (the first kid in my hs class to pass on--wrapped his car around a tree a few months after hs graduation--he found out the hard way).

Our oldest son used the wife's car one night. The next day I saw something hanging under the front end of it. Closer inspection revealed a stock of corn wrapped around the passenger side front shock and gravel up in the frame just under the radiator. When I asked him about it, "A deer ran out in front of me and I wound up going through the ditch and into a cornfield." About 3 or 4 months later, my wife was at a school related meeting talking with a parent of one of our son's friends. When my wife mentioned the boy dodging a deer in the car, the friend said, "Is that what he told you happened?" Turns out, they were playing "Dukes of Hazard" on some back road. In other words, jumping their cars. They later were "four-wheeling" in some cornfield. When the wife got home, it hit the fan. He thought it was funny that he got away with it for as long as he did. Needless to say, he never got to use her car again.

Yikes, well at least you guys took care of it. Sadly these students seem to not have parents who care, seeing as how their siblings have gone through school already and we all saw the lack of caring when they went through. I'm glad they are okay and I hope they learned their lesson. If not they could in fact end up dead...

yeah...it happens when those who are not invulnerable try to do things that would severely harm themselves
its the parents that try to instill the idea that they are not, but some kids only learn the very hard way

and in other news.....I feel a supertramp song coming on....'it's raining again...' and yes, the idiots in our assssociation decided that this week was a good week to replace the skylights in the common areas (which only really needed to be CLEANED)...so yeah, gotta have rain for that.

It rains cars in the UK but teenagers till don't wake up!

Quote:
A teenager from Norfolk has said he slept through the moment a car crashed into his bedroom.

15-year-old Ben was fast asleep when a car smashed into the side of his room, sending bricks and rubble flying everywhere.

Luckily he wasn't hurt and said he only woke up when he heard his mum shouting.

When will the skylight work be finished Cosy?
